Can you recommend a particular brand/type of surge protector for use on all home appliances in kitchen and laundry room? Are there different types for 120 volt machines and 240 volt machines?

        Hi Michael,

For any appliances that plug into a standard 120vac wall outlet we recommend a Belkin that can handle a max of around 1000 joules, like this one: http://amzn.to/2iL5tKR

The point is to get a trusted name brand. Not worth saving a few bucks for a device that’s protecting an expensive appliance!

For 240vac protection, you have to install a device at the breaker box. So that’s not just a plug-in solution. It’s an electrical installation that can be done by an electrician or a DIYer who is comfortable with basic electrical projects.
