If you look at the slide that starts at about 5 and 1/2 minutes in, he mentions that he clips the black lead to chassis ground. I just added the following note to the text above the video:
Note: we use chassis as ground in this video. Remember our caution against doing this! That’s a decision that advanced appliantologists can make, but there are pitfalls.
The black lead needs to be on a neutral point.
