    You’re getting close!

    You’re correct that both the start and the run windings need to be energized to begin with (that’s the only way the motor can start), and then the start winding needs to be taken out of the circuit, leaving only the run winding.

    Let’s take it one step at a time. First, when the start switch is pushed, what is it supplying to the motor windings: L1, L2, or neutral?
