The oil in the compressor isn’t supposed to get into the rest of the sealed system. If enough of it collects outside of the compressor, it can compromise the whole system.

The purpose of the oil is to lubricate the moving parts in the compressor. But if the refrigerator is left on its side, it can leak into the rest of the sealed system, causing issues.
