    So when the start switch is pushed it connects neutral to the start winding then when the button is released it takes the winding out of the circuit.

    Not quite — the start switch supplies neutral to the start AND the run windings. That causes the motor to start spinning.

    And once the start switch is released, it no longer supplies neutral to EITHER winding. Yet the motor keeps running! Can you tell how this happens?
